Model Citizen
David Suzuki is considered by many to be an ideal and model citizen. To achieve a feat like this, one must work for the development of his country and try to make his country touch the peak of glory. However, David is also considered to be a global citizen, someone who is aware of the wider world and has a sense of his or her own role as a citizen of the world. David has proved himself to be purposeful, informed and active through many of his actions.

Purposeful
David Suzuki is purposeful because everything he does serves a distinct purpose. David always tries to benefit the environment and the people of the global community. He has proven this by starting non-profit organizations like The David Suzuki Foundation and by making many remarkable scientific discoveries, most notably concerning the farmer-friendly way of breeding fruit flies. Although a large majority of people didn't see anything wrong with the environment, David Suzuki, supported by his family and friends, fought hard for what he believed in. He spread the message of world's degrading environment. A significant example of this occurred in 1989, when David Suzuki’s It's a Matter of Survival (Radio Show) made people realize where the planet was heading. He famously broadcaster vital global issues like the melting of polar ice caps. In response, over 17,000 of his shocked fans sent him letters asking for ways to stop the catastrophe. David does everything he does for a purpose, to make the world a more environmentally-friendly and sustainable place.
Informed
David Suzuki is always informed of what is going on around him. He constantly tries to observe and evaluate his surroundings. An important example of this occurred in the late 1900's, when David Suzuki was able to take a step back from all of his work as a teacher and scientist and analyze the world. Once he realized that the world was quickly going to succumb to global warming if nothing was done, David immediately became an environmental activist and started to persuade massive numbers of people to amend their ways. However, David didn't stop there. He also provided them simple and cost-effective ways that they could reduce their ecological footprint. These include ways like choosing food that is local and organic and choosing to bike, carpool or walk your way to your destination. All in all, David Suzuki made sure he was informed of what was going on around him.
Active
David is a very active citizen. He can always be found either holding rallies and protests, filming for his environmental and award-winning show, The Nature of Things or promoting his organization The David Suzuki Foundation. All of these day-to-day actions have resulted in not only an extremely active citizen, but a changed world. By holding meetings, rallies and protest, David Suzuki has been able to help pass significant environmental legislation like banning toxic chemicals. Many of the meetings held by David have also helped create strategies to protect endangered species. David Suzuki, in conclusion, is a very active citizen because he is always looking for ways to improve the world.
Geneticist
David Suzuki has proven himself to be capable of being an ideal citizen by taking action and contributing a fair deal of knowledge to society. In 1967, he bred a type of fruit fly that died when temperature rose above 29°C. This has helped farmers all over the world by making sure that the fruit flies die in the first heat wave therefore not damaging the plants.
Author/ Teacher
As an established professor at the University of Alberta and the University of British Columbia, David has displayed an incredible understanding of his rights and responsibilities. He has also written 53 books, 13 of which are for children.
Broadcaster
As a broadcaster on his TV show, The Nature of Things, David Suzuki is required to be informed of the things around him. Like any ideal citizen, David keeps a close watch on everything around him, from politics to the environment. He makes sure his viewers are being supplied with the correct information. In doing so, David showcases his honesty and ability to make good decisions.
Environmentalist
Being an environmentalist is no easy thing, it means standing up for what you think is right and being able to deal with the constant criticisms of almost everyone, including the media and many politicians. However, David Suzuki is able to demonstrate his courageous and responsible behavior towards the environment, regardless of what anyone has to say. This is evident by David's own environmental organization, The David Suzuki Foundation. Since it's opening in 1990, the foundation has challenged people all around the world to care about the environment.
In conclusion, David Suzuki has established himself to be an ideal citizen. He has created livable communities and has helped progress environmental rights and justice. David has helped many Canadians secure a high quality of life. He has provided better solutions to live while embracing nature.

Although he is still alive, David Suzuki's legacy will be one that will be remembered and cherished all throughout the world. This is true for a number of reasons.

A large majority of people will remember David Suzuki for being the activist that he is. They will commemorate his hard work and dedication to ensuring a greener and cleaner Earth. David always has, does and will continue to speak on behalf of the environment. If he, God forbid, is to leave this world any time soon, he will not die in vain. Leaving behind highly influential and world renowned organizations like The David Suzuki Foundation, David will be known for his environmental contributions.

For a discovery as important as this, David will definitely be remembered and looked up by farmers and gardeners all around the world.
